dear blog, I left you hanging in early 2013. You needed attention, I know, but so did my life. I needed to care for a child sick it seemed, 24/7 with ear infections (thanks daycare). I needed time to work on other creative projects (that I did and did not finish). I needed to cook dinner without worrying about whether there was sufficient cilantro garnish to warrant a blog photo. I needed to remember being a mom to my kid in his last year as a true baby, without worrying if I took the best picture to capture the moment. I did capture moments in photos in 2013 though, and here are my favorites…..2013002

Small town parades are the best. The town brings out their finest. There’s always candy in the street, mostly tootsie rolls, and everyone scrambles. 2013080 2013081

Though these parades don’t have much in the form of floats or….naked people…like the ones we enjoy back at home. 2013083 2013084

And I leave you with this. the glorious start to a new year. SO much to come. get excited.

A truly bittersweet day. At least once a day, everyday of his life, I have had a quite moment where I squeeze him close, and breath in his scent. My heart swells each and every time. He is still so little, yet when I compare the size he was a year ago, when I first held him, he’s SO BIG. He got his two front teeth for Christmas, photo evidence below. He’s equally ready to be independent, as he is glued to my hip. He won’t hold your hand, and runs through open doors like he’s ready to take on the world by storm. If I’m sitting down near him, he alternates between whining to get up on my lap, and squirming to get off of it. One of the only things that Bennett eats is yogurt,  I suppose there are worse things.  His new favorite book is Little Blue Truck, and we almost almost made it through the whole book without getting distracted. His love for Jax is about as equal as our love for him.

Best ever idea for a first birthday party : This bubble machine. There’s not too much you can do to entertain 1 year olds, especially in balmy weather. It was great in the kitchen, but outdoors would have been cool too!

… Still a little unsure of the hurricane of bubbles….

Catching on!

…And he loves it!

Bennett’s uncle Sean, and the gorgeousness that is Christina.

Tres blue-eyed amigos. Tallen makes the best scary faces, and Oliver has the spunkiest hair.

its hard to take a group shot when you have three different cameras to look at. Bah!

Would you look at this little nugget’s eyes?!!

Its hammer time!!! – new favorite toy. Forget all the jazzy musical dog singing electro toys. This kid just wants wood weapons.

We opened gifts, which was actually really awesome. we really weren’t expecting/needing anything. Especially right after christmas. Our friends and family are so generous. He’s a lucky & spoiled kid.

And my favorite shot:

Heather & Jeff Engaged

Back in October, I was asked to take some save the date photos of some dear friends. Their idea was simple…They love each other, they love wine, and they’re going to the chapel, and they’re gonna get married! Heather got some wine glasses etched, and we played out in the sun and grass at Balboa park one afternoon.

This is the one they chose for their Save the Date Postcards!

I’m a lucky lady to be in the life of these two, and can’t wait to be a part of their special day next October, 2013. Congrats you guys!

End of November

November is over. It was a good solid month. Bennett is 11 months! That means I only have one more month and then I’ll have a 1 year old. SO HARD TO BELIEVE. We’re really getting decorated for the holidays, and I love it. Yesterday my friend Sarah come to visit and we made gingerbread eggnong cheesecake bars. Last night T and I strung popcorn and cranberries by the light of the christmas tree.

Anyway, without further adieu, here are photos from our Thanksgiving at the Melville’s.

will always love this place.

Per the usual…I’ve been absent from you blog.

It happens, more often than not.

BUT I think that it just might be a good sign that I so often go rogue, it means we’re living right??

So what have the Omans been up to then?

Well Fall TV did come back into action, and we finally got directv to come over and fix the whole home dvr. That was a happy dance day. The second season of New Girl is possibly even better than the first. 2 Broke Girls, Boardwalk Empire…so many good shows!

We replaced our roof…the day before the first rain of the season…. Bring on the debt!

We found an elliptical on Craigslist and put it in our garage for post Bennett wind-down time, after which we usually commence with Wine-time. Pretty much nightly.

Bennett is actually training for the 2016 Summer Olympics. I’m not sure what in though….by the looks of the bruises and the rug burn on his nose, he’s really into contact sports. Tim’s dream come true.

I chopped a couple more inches off of my hair and put in some more highlights, and not a single person noticed. I don’t even think Tim would have except that he knew I went to the appointment. I love it, even though I still only manage to dry it about once a week.

Bennett still has no teeth and still has only said “Mama” a couple of times. I realize those have nothing to do with one another.

We hired a receptionist/customer service person at work, and it made it much easier for me to bring Bennett when someone else was answering the phones…and then one day she just stopped showing up. Who does that???? I mean, we have the woman’s money! I guess I should be happy that we easily rid ourselves of someone so idiotic. And no, she didn’t get murdered.

I sewed Bennett a teepee and it came out really good. I do think Jax loves it more than Bennett though.

My Mom turned 60 and we threw a little surprise sailboat cruise for her, it was a beautiful afternoon. photos to come!

We have a 4ft. Christmas tree that touches our ceiling, because it has to be up on an old dresser. The old dresser had retired in the garage and is now the focal point of the living room. #redneckbabyproofing

I finished up all my Christmas shopping….Amazon Prime to the rescue.

I’m working on a couple of Pinterest projects, that I’m super excited about. The teepee came out so well that I thought I’d just keep going.

I’ve got a serious coffee addiction going. I double up my Kcups in the morning…but by 10am I’m ready for more. Its becoming a problem. I should add that Bennett does not sleep through the night, by any means. He’s still waking up on average 3 times a night. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

We’re getting bored with our take out options…which means it is really time to start cooking every night. But you know, the job the commute the baby the dog the husband the we’re out of Kcups! the oh shiz I forgot to defrost meat again! the keep the dog away from the baby’s cheerios that are dumped on the floor the husband that works until 2am doing godknowswhat the baby needs a bath the keep the baby away from the fireplace the oh where the heck is the baby? the oh shiz the baby has his hands in the toilet the baby wants to nurse for five seconds every 3 minutes ….its exhausting. So we haven’t been eating the best, but we should.

It is now 10:42 and I’m signing off for the night.

You’ll get photos soon. Cross my heart hope to die stick a needle in my eye!
